Looking to dine out in one of the many Oakville restaurants? This desirable town on the shores of Lake Ontario has several hundred restaurants, according to TripAdvisor.ca, so there’s no shortage of places to eat out! The restaurants are just one aspect of the great lifestyle that Oakville’s residents enjoy; others include recreation and parks, the lake, excellent schools, culture, and its proximity to Toronto.

International Cuisine in Oakville

Oakville restaurants reflect the multi-ethnic communities of the Greater Toronto Area. Toronto itself is, after all, one of the world’s most diverse cities when it comes to the people who live here, attracting immigrants from all over the world, so it’s only natural that there should be many different types of cuisine on offer too.

Take a stroll, or a drive, through downtown Oakville and you’ll be transported to many different countries in the space of just a few blocks! Many of the best restaurants can be found on Lakeshore Road East and they include Italian, Middle Eastern, Thai, Greek, Spanish, and Latin, but of course you can also enjoy seafood, steak and the more typical Canadian and North American dishes here too.

Italian restaurants seem to be the most prevalent though, so lovers of pasta will find many great places to dine in Oakville!

At the other end of Lakeshore Road, in Bronte Village, there’s also a great selection of different cuisines on offer: Thai, Greek, Mediterranean, Chinese, and fish and chips, to name just a few.

Another street known for its great variety of restaurants in Oakville is Kerr Street. This popular street can also whisk you away to culinary heaven with its many different cuisines. There’s a Japanese restaurant, a Mexican inspired restaurant, Mediterranean, Italian, Thai, pizza, Caribbean, Halal cuisine, and Chinese.

Independent Restaurants

One thing we love about restaurants in Oakville is the fact that many of them are independently owned and operated. Their owners have come up with some great names like Adonis Mediterranean Restaurant, which makes me think of Greek temples! There’s Tartan Fish and Chips too, and no prizes for guessing the country of inspiration for this restaurant.

It’s these independent restaurants that are most highly rated on review sites like Trip Advisor and Urban Spoon, but there is also still demand for the popular chain restaurants and fast food places.

Chain Restaurants

It’s sometimes nice to eat in a restaurant where you know what to expect, and restaurants that are part of national and international chains can provide this. Oakville restaurants include popular favourites like The Keg, Kelseys, Pizza Hut, Swiss Chalet, and Harveys, and there are numerous McDonalds and Subway eateries if you only have the time for fast food.

Oakville restaurants have something for all tastes and budgets, and with so many to choose from you could dine out half the year without having tried them all! But if you can’t decide what you want, Lakeshore Road East is without doubt the place to go for inspiration.
